What’s required is the following:
You may use an x-acto or another comparable knife as a scalpel if the blade is sharp and flexible enough. With a Stanley knife/box cutter, you can’t get all the fine details (usually). Scapulae are better than X-acto knives since they don’t shatter as readily.
Spare blades are available from the store where you bought the scalpel. Before you purchase, check the serial number on the blade’s packaging to be sure it’ll work with your equipment (e.g., 10 A). In my observations, the performance of varied blade forms has never appeared to fluctuate.
If you’re searching for something more delicate, rice paper, with a thickness of 385 GSM, is a great option (about 2 mm thick). Because of their poor tolerance for cuts, mistakes, and rips, printing cannot be done on sheets with a thinner texture. It’s more harder to cut designs out of thicker paper, but the final forms are more durable. The newsagent card material is an excellent option for making these kind of cards. Dark colours, such as black, dark blues, or purples, provide a dramatic contrast, which I like.
Print your image on a separate piece of paper and use it as a reference when sketching. Alternatively, you may print and cut out an image from the internet, like I did. Because you don’t have to think about it, line drawings from the early 1900s are a great alternative (also, depending on your country, it should be out of copyright).
Assemble the cards in order.
Cards in Western countries are often folded on the left side. Making a mistake would be embarrassing for you. We may also disassemble the card and apply the photo on the left-hand side. As a consequence, the cuts have been inverted such that they are visible on the side opposite the one on which they were completed.
Slice the ingredients into smaller pieces to begin.
Pick and choose which areas of the card you want to colour and which you want to keep blank. I attempt to keep the amount of damage to my skin, clothing, and other personal items to a minimum. Paper is substantially weaker in shear when squeezed from one end than when pulled from both ends. This is the most significant consideration to make while cutting paper (if you push on a point). Make careful to clip in all of your support lines before deleting a section of the background! When I’m in a hurry, I lose track of my cards to prevent losing them.
